Education and Space Communities Lose a Leader

Tony So 1960 – 2022

Magnitude.io co-founder and serial entrepreneur Anthony (Tony) So passed away unexpectedly last Sunday at home. A private service is planned later this month. Tony leaves behind his wife Christine, and their two daughters. He was 61.

The space and education communities lost an amazing teacher that knew how to meet the learner where they were and knew how to provide just the right level of encouragement. Tony’s algorithm for life was his joie de vivre, determination, and helpful spirit. Anyone who had the opportunity to spend time with him knew that he lived in the pursuit of happiness and wished others the same.

As gourmet, photographer, and talented designer, he could joyfully engage in the moment. As a serial entrepreneur, businessman, and innovative thinker, he could see the larger picture. As either persona, Tony knew it took nurturing and patience to deliver what he strived for.

In loving memory of Tony his family asks that in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to CASIS (Center for the Advancement of Science In Space). Without CASIS as a steward of the International Space Station programs like ExoLab, Storytime from Space, Orion’s Quest, ARISS, and dozens of other amazing learning experiences would not be possible.

Our team at Magnitude mourns this heavy loss of a leader and dear friend. Our work continues in remembrance of his joy connecting people together from all over the world.

“One will weave the canvas; another will fell a tree by the light of his ax. Yet another will forge nails, and there will be others who observe the stars to learn how to navigate. And yet all will be as one. Building a boat isn’t about weaving canvas, forging nails, or reading the sky. It’s about giving a shared taste for the sea, by the light of which you will see nothing contradictory but rather a community of love.”
