Magnitude.io is a STEAM education organization in the San Francisco Bay Area. Founded in 2013, it gives K-12 students a real role in research at the edge of discovery, where they build understanding through authentic work. We are especially committed to reaching students who rarely get access to experiences like this.
Our flagship program, ExoLab, pairs classroom growth chambers with matching hardware aboard the International Space Station. Students run a ground experiment alongside its twin in orbit, collect their own data, and draw their own conclusions about how life responds to microgravity.
Since 2017, we have flown 12 ISS missions, most recently a mushroom-cultivation experiment developed with Australian educators and a private astronaut mission that circumnavigated Earth’s poles. Join us as we build a lunar-surface experiment and bring Australia’s Virtual Astronaut Challenge to the United States.
How it all began
History
What began as a dare to run advertising in space became something else: Ted Tagami and Tony So saw that commercial space could serve learning, and in 2013 they founded Magnitude.io. In 2017, Magnitude launched its first mission to the International Space Station. Tony passed away in 2022. His curiosity and joie de vivre remain part of everything we build, and every mission carries his vision forward.
